When choosing the best metal blade, there’s more than meets the eye. We recently tested the 185mm Alpha Austsaw Heavy Metal Blade against several competitors to see how much difference quality can make.
In our tests, we discovered that the 185mm Alpha Austsaw Heavy Metal Blade can cut through 14 metres of 20mm thick mild steel plate—an achievement that surpasses any competitor blade we know of.
So, we conducted additional tests by making cuts in 100mm x 6mm steel plates to allow direct comparison with competitors.
Some competitor blades barely reached 0.7 metres before dulling out, while the 185mm Alpha Austsaw Heavy Metal Blade achieved 30.1 metres of cutting, significantly outperforming the competition and proving its versatility.
“If you’ve driven hours to get a blade only to have it cut 0.7 metres when you could be cutting 30 metres for the same price, that will make a fair impact on your day and your bottom line,” Product Development Specialist, Joel said.
Other competing blades ranged from 5.7 to 20 metres—with one failing after just 7.2 metres.
Additionally, the 305mm Alpha Austsaw RaiderX Metal Blade for cutting standard steel performed impressively, completing 1,120 cuts on a 50 x 50 x 3mm steel tube without losing a single tooth.
This blade stayed sharp and effective even after extensive use, plus it's resharpenable, offering even more value with the potential for another 1,000 cuts.
Competitor blades? Some only managed between 230 and 720 cuts—a notable difference.
Another massive advantage is tool strain reduction.
“The other thing I wanted to report is how much load it puts on your tooling. The power tools are the big money, and these blades are sacrificial,” Joel said.
“This is why we look at the swarf under a microscope.
“The quality of the swarf tells you how hot it’s cutting and the tool strain. Smaller chips mean more strain; longer swarf means a smoother cut.”
With Alpha Austsaw, less strain means lower tool replacement costs.
Every cut matters. Make each one count with Alpha Austsaw saw blades—reliable, precise, and built to last.
